I am currently designing a cirucit that consist of a USB module which will be connected to a PC. For safety reasons I plan on isolating the USB from the rest of the circuit using the FOD8012 bi-directional opto-isolator. Currently the USB module uses a mini B usb connector however I wish to replace this with a type B usb connector (to grant a more stable connection). I was doing some research and found that there are 4 conventional lines in a USB (VBUS, D-, D+, GND). On the mini B usb there are five with the fifth one being ID line. I want to know if it is still possible to replace the mini b usb connector with the type B usb connector and if it is how do I do it.
Also I do realize that there are adpaters (mini b to type B adapter) however I do not wish to use these.
