Had a chance to take another of these toys apart. This one was a little less dismantled than the prior 4.......... went back to my "source" and got 5 more of "em..........can one design around large isolation transformers, culled from UPS devices. The Packrat got lucky....snagged 8 of 'em....... the whole UPS that is
They have 5 equal voltage taps off the secondary, and one honkin'high amp sec. winding out of #8 wire.
so........OK......DUH !!..........I think I get it now !
I wondered why the heck that my "big honkin' winding" was hooked onto a field of heat-sinks....... with a large number of mosfets, rectifiers, and other assorted fruit salad, then the express freight came along...........
When the UPS device switches to battery backup, that "honkin' " winding becomes the primary.... and the fruit salad is there on that particular pc board, to make the battery be AC to drive the transformer ..............Or am I still missing the boat ?
I told y'all I was a relative newbie to this electronic thing, and will speculate that stuff learned in this manner is not soon forgotten
