It is a little over 100mm. I did put my caliper there for some kind of general reference. Even at 100VA, I'd have a few amps to play with at the 26vac output. That's plenty I think. Thanks guys

It is also useful to accurately measure the winding resistance, because much of the heat generated in a transformer is from the current flowing through the resistance. And usually the dissipation of that heat is related to the transformer size and mass. And there is information available about that.

Generally the secondary wire gauge is a good indication.
