Two PCBs and a shared IR sensor.

Be gentle with me. I have two identical PCBs (they are USB powered media players). I'm trying to sync response from a single IR remote control. I'm wondering, is it possible to detach the IR sensor from unit one and connect the sensor from unit 2 to both boards? I can't find an answer to this anywhere (which may well be answer in itself). Thanks in advance.

hi,
OK.
I don't see a problem, with using one of the RX detectors to control two PCB's.
Carefully remove one of the RX modules and link across the 0V and the Signal line from the other PCB

Eric,
Thanks again. I'm a complete novice. Is there a way to easily identify which is the signal line and 0V using a test meter?

Just a quick note that maybe it would be better to use something like this rather than modify the circuit board. It is an IR repeater, the cables with the round bits have little emitters on the end that go over the IR receiver on the equipment and the one with the box is a receiver. There are a variety of options like it, I chose this one at random. It would seem to be a simplet, less fraught way to do this.

Hi Gary,
It is difficult to be sure, but this image shows what I think how the pins are connected.
You could check with a voltmeter the Ground and Supply, the Signal out will be the 3rd pin.

Thanks Yakov. I had considered this but was not sure of latency across devices as I'm trying to sync them. G
