Triacs (I would have used OR Gates)

My original idea of just using 4 Triacs (in place of the 4 diodes, and no relay would be required), doesn't seem to have gained any traction.

Any views appreciated.

Cheers,
Dave.
Doesn't look like anyone answered.

I don't see any reason that parallel triacs wouldn't work.

Triac switching of certain loads bring on another set of problems, but if one works, 4 could possibly work.

There, that should force an answer.:D

It's possible that triacs won't commutate properly in parallel. I'll see what others have to say.

Traics will require more components and more complicated PCB.

Isolation will require even more components.

But AC relays will be far too simple and effective for ur application. Plus less trouble some and easy to fix should a problem arise.

Solid state relays would work, as would an all-discrete triac design. But nothing can be more simple than one relay with the right coil rating and a few diodes. k*i*s*s.

I agree with the above posts.

So many replies dance around the question. Offering good solutions of course.:)

Just like to see questions answered directly, even if I don't know for sure.
