Hello. I am looking for a simple way to light an LED by just touching a wire. I know that you can connect the anode to + and touch the cathode but the resistance of the body between the cathode and ground is too great to light the LED very brightly (just using a couple batteries). You can increase the current, but I don't want to get electrocuted. Couldn't I somehow use a transistor as a switch to do this?

 

Google "led touch switch circuit" will find numerous examples. I like the one below but replace the lamp bulb with and LED and series resistor. This circuit draws no current when the light is off bar the transistor leakage.
