Hi all,

I’m working on a project and was just curious because I can’t find a definitive answer on connecting the earth with the transformer. At the moment we have the 2 x 25v secondary’s in series to give 1 x 50v and was wondering if the series join should be connected to the chassis ground?

I can provide a diagram of how the transformer is connected if it will allow you to understand what I mean.

It can if you want/need an earth GND reference, depends on the nature of the circuit.
Post it if you will.

The circuit it is powering has a floating ground point in itself so I don’t see the need for the reference at the transformer.

It is then connected to a bridge rectifier and smoothing capacitors

 

The secondary GND reference for that supply is purely optional and as already mentioned, depends whether the subsequent circuitry will require or need it.
At that voltage, the need for Gnd ref would be for other than safety, noise - shielding etc.
