It may be a offshoot as to what has happened in Canada since going metric, According to Weights and Measures Canada, you can use the old measure in a sale, but if doing so you have to use the proper (Imperial) measure.
But most Restaurants, Bars and Pubs here use it without compunction for their own form of 'pint' measure.
Sadly, most Canadians could not tell you what a pint is!

That took place about 30 miles north of me.

The bottle I had, had 750ml on it, I guess someone must have pointed out the confusion, why was European Co. using a US pint?
We definitely needed the metric system!
