The man who was shot was a hero to the young man with autism and maybe saved a life that day.
I'm completely convinced the caretaker saved the life of the man who was so mentally impaired that he wasn't even aware of the police. After the police pretended to, "negotiate" with the oblivious person for 15 minutes, they shot his nurse, and then it was suddenly safe to attack both of them, face-to-face. WTF kind of idiots are behind those badges??? And, will I be the next random stranger that gets shot? How about a war on police stupidity? Oh...wait...BLM is already on that job.

(Still wondering what ever happened to the suicidal "gun man" who was never found.)

We have not seen the whole story, and generally I sympathize with the cops -- even in the Brown case in Ferguson--, but that video is disturbing. We can probably agree there are incompetents in every profession. Unfortunately, their unions protect bad cops just as they protect bad teachers. Neither should be doing the job they have.

This is something I think we can all agree on but no amount of training and simulation can stop some people from making bad decisions when they fear for their lives. The current atmosphere of police ambush murders weekly doesn't help.

I've known a couple of teachers...and I wonder how they maintain their sanity.
I taught one class and was so disgusted with the students that I never tried again, and I never had to deal with the bureaucracy!

Good idea.

I have several guns in my house and regularly use them to shot any manner of vermin. My grandson visited this week for about 5 days. He is 15, and we spotted a groundhog from my usual kill-window. He is not accustomed to guns and lives in the DC area. He asked why I didn't shot it. My response was that I would rather let a ground hog live than risk either one of us getting shot.

When he is experienced with guns, I will let him take the shot. In the meantime, there are too many details about gun safety to learn. It is not like fishing. He is great at that.

I, too, have "several" guns in my house (the term "several" is just not quite appropriate, shall we say). One of the things I did this past weekend was take my daughter and my niece (who was visiting for a week) out shooting. Neither had been shooting before. My daughter is 8 and my niece is 15. I spent a couple hours the night before talking about what a gun is, how they work, and how to treat them safely. This included a couple practical demonstrations of what a primer is and what happens when it is detonated and what gun power is and what happens when it is ignited. The one thing that I couldn't do, due to range rules, was a practical demo of what a gun can do by shooting a plastic milk jug filled with water with a high-powered rifle. I've always found that to be an extremely effective demo underscoring the point that guns are NOT toys.

No need to hide under a blanket and cry, OK.
Why would I cry? I said, "I can't wait". The drama, the news stations, the interviews, ... It will be like Chicago! Maybe the local news station can duplicate the Chicago style by only interviewing people at the crime scene that weren't home when it happened but have so many teeth missing that viewers just can't look away.

The most astounding problem (in this case) with "fearing for their lives" is that they didn't even find the lone gunman. They found two unarmed people and couldn't count to two.
The local news just reported that it was not a gun after all. "The object that police feared was a gun was likely the plastic toy truck the young man was holding."

I'm sure your more inline with the Jimmy Carter ... zero based budget ...

Me, I prefer to look at the real data on the spending. I lived with the years of continuing resolutions and the indiscriminate budget cuts. I've fought some and won some.

You made the analysis about Reagan's Presidency on the graph and I pointed out, on the lower end, the results of congressional action causing a drastic rise.

And now CNN is reporting that the therapist asked the cop, "Why did you shoot me?" And the cop replied, "I don't know."

Several hours later, the story about the cop trying to shoot the one holding the gun came out. Still not sure which one was supposedly holding the gun.

The head of the local police benevolent society(police union) says they were aiming at the mentally impaired man, not the black care giver. Guess that makes it alright.
