One of my neighbors lost his cat just a few weeks ago. It was very hard for him because he had the cat for something like 20 years, and had to watch it die slowly from the big "C". Euthanization was way to expensive around this area so he had to wait it out.
Nasty situation to have to be in.

Since we seem to be on the death of pets, another friend of mine had her smaller dog head bit right off by the larger dog. That was really nasty. Had to bury it in the back yard.

When we euthanized our cat (one of the saddest days for our family) the vet charged us only $25 usd ... he first gave him a sedative, and after a few minutes injected him with a potassium compound. He passed away very peacefully while my wife gently petted him. She couldn't stop sobbing for a while. And I kept a knot in my throat almost all day.

I don't understand why vets are so freaking expensive in the US. Sure, they have a right to make a living, but the cost of keeping a pet in the US can be comparable to tending to a child at times. And that's just ridiculous.

When I met my wife she had a dog and I had a dog which was about all I ended up with during a divorce. Over the next 37 and a half years we always had two dogs and actually peaked at 3 when Kathy took in a stray. Yes, the vet bills are there but I want to know that the dogs are well cared for. Kathy lost her fight with cancer about 4 months ago and our two dogs looked for her for weeks. Pets really do define unconditional love. Matters not dog, cat or whatever they become part of family.

I just spent a week down in North Carolina visiting old friends. My friends Wayne and Louie noticed their 2 year old cat was not eating so they took it to the vet. Following $490 USD for X-Rays, Bloodwork and other things as Wayne backed out with the cat which they sent home with a "maybe dehydration" Wayne backed into the Vet Clinic sign so another $300. The cat died that night as they looked for a 24/7 emergency room for animals. Still waiting to see how all of that plays out. I figure they should have gotten a better diagnosis and the poor cat never got good medical help.
