My wife decided to get us a dog. What, six cats wasn't enough for her?

The dogs killed a porcupine May 21st which is Victoria Day (holiday) in Canada. The financial fall out continues... They are doing better. For obe dog it is second porcupine encounter in 3 weeks. This forced me to do the unthinkable and order a shock collar... I do not know what else to do as the only reason they survive this encounter is me... I wont post pictures, they are awful.

Here is a nice updated photo from earlier thou

Lost my old friend yesterday. As he got progressively older, he became increasingly trusting of cars he knew. Yesterday his luck ran out and the wife rolled over him. I was out at the time, and consider that a blessing. I wouldn't have been able to hold it together. My wife feels horrible but seems OK, and I know I would not have been.

My deepest condolences ... I've owned several pets through my lifetime, and I've heard several times the stupid advice of not getting too attached to them ... what's the point of a pet if one doesn't ever grow to love them? ... and I'm very sorry about your wife, but of course it was not her fault. You should let her know that in clear and concise terms, and repeatedly ... only God knows how I'd feel if it had happened to me, I'd probably keep blaming myself all the way on my road to the grave ... don't let that happen to her.

My heart goes out to you buddy. Pets like dogs and cats just become a part of our lives like family. It's nice to know that while with us they enjoyed a long and healthy life.

Lost my old friend yesterday.
My condolences on the loss of your loved one.

After nudging one of our cats who was deaf backing out of the garage, I told all family members that they need to learn from my experience and exercise caution. Fortunately, I drive a stick and can tell when I'm encountering unexpected resistance so she only got a bruise.

We treat all of our pets as beloved members of the family; but we don't take them with us when we go on vacation, or shopping, or ...

Hello,

Lost my old friend yesterday
It is always hard to lose a beloved friend.
One can get a band with the cat or dog.
In holland we say that the cat goes to summerland, over the rainbow bridge, where he can play with all other pets and have no pain.

She already had the name when we got her from the animal-shelter.
The last cat we adopted from a shelter was named Lemon, then they changed her name to Coconut; probably realized that Lemon had negative connotations. We were the ones who took her to the shelter (she was a stray, almost feral). She showed up in our garage with 4 kittens (young because their eyes were still bluish). We took care of them and socialized the kittens until they were weaned, then took them to the shelter.

The kittens were adopted quickly, but the mother was wary of people and I thought they might euthanize her. I kept checking to see if she was adopted and after a month I became increasingly concerned that they were going to euthanize her because she hadn't been socialized; so we decided to adopt her.

We call her Kitty Momma because she wasn't much older than a year or two.

Her colony mate hung around our property while she was "gone". They have a very strong bond and have been with us for 6 years now. The male can't be in the house unless he's supervised because he'll mark things (we had 3 male cats before him) and will still go after our Siamese females. He sleeps in the garage most nights because we don't want him to feed the coyotes.

Kitty Momma is a lap kitty now and often sleeps with a family member.

I once had a cat that liked to play with a ping pong ball on the stairs to the basement.

Clickity clickity clickity pitter-patter pitter-patter pitter-patter... Clickity clickity clickity pitter-patter pitter-patter pitter-patter.

He could fit the ball in his mouth so in a short time it started over.

Clickity clickity clickity pitter-patter pitter-patter pitter-patter... Clickity clickity clickity pitter-patter pitter-patter pitter-patter.

I did not mind him playing with the ball except when he would do it in the middle of the night.

Clickity clickity clickity pitter-patter pitter-patter pitter-patter... Clickity clickity clickity pitter-patter pitter-patter pitter-patter.
