Neutering does not harm males for which there is no intention of working or breeding. It is simple "outpatient" surgery.Personally, I think that neutering an animal is even worse than removing its claws, and that's something that is done by law in many states when one buys an animal from shelter.
Spaying females is serious surgery, similar to a hysterectomy in a woman.
If most male dogs/cats were neutered, spaying would be unnecessary.
