I was going to post this in the Now for Something Weird thread

http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/deer-cant-read-signs-Iowa-Dept-Transportation-12312614.php

But I thought it make for a broader topic of discussion and that is. the level of stupidity of our fellow human beings.

One thing I hate about coming to this forum is realizing the number of people that are so much smarter than me. But when I look around at the general public I realize how much more intelligent I am than the general population.

There are plenty of people out there that are just plain stupid and it is frightening how many. They have no ability to reason, no cognitive ability whatsoever, most can't do simple math, can't read and can barely speak English even though they were born in the United States.

These people drive. How does any one that is so freaking stupid to think that deer look for crossing signs to cross the road, pass a drivers test? These people vote and far more scary they have children, many times the children grow up to be just as stupid and uneducated as the parents.

Sad but true.
But our civilization has managed to survive all this time with a large number of such people (whatever the latest political polls show ) and hopefully that survival will continue.

I suppose one real danger of modern times is that the social internet seems to magnify and spread the stupidity.
People who were once somewhat isolated in their crackpot theories and ignorance can now easily locate and reach like-minded members anywhere in the world.
Just look at the last election and the spread of Russian propaganda postings on the social sites.

We all are dumb about countless things but Stupid is not knowing how dumb you are. The problem I see today is mainly this, the total lack of knowing how dumb you are about simple things that don't require math or education. It only requires the attention span of an African tsetse fly and the ability to not walk off a cliff while using electronics.

I am not so concerned about people sharing their lane brained opinions. At least they have one. My concern is those that have no ability to think whatsoever. The people who just drift through life.

The world does, in fact, require burger flippers and septic tank cleaners.

If everyone had the ability to think, where would burgers come from, and where would they go when we were done with them?

Did you take the time to read the article I posted? It says noting about a letter and had nothing at all to do with Indiana.h
Uh, did you read the snopes article? It references exactly what the sf gate article was about. I'm pretty sure the "iowa dot" inquiries spring from that. You go off on a rant based on that article, I think knowing the real back story would have been interesting.

Years ago, maybe 10 to 15 years ago when cell phones were relatively new I watched a young teenage girl ride her bicycle head on into a hedgerow. Before I retired I was out and about much more, simple things like going out to lunch from work. The people around me neverceased to amaze me andjust when you thought nothing could get worse damn if I wouldn't be surprised again.

All that aside, chocolate milk does come from brown cows doesn't it? I was always pretty sure about that. I am well aware that deer can't read, they generally ask other animals to read them the signs right?

Scary is when I listen to some of the words which spout from the mouths of our elected officials.

What does it matter where the inquires came from??? The fact is they had to post on their site to clear up misconceptions of idiots. The snopes article is irreverent to the subject matter.

My mom taught reading for awhile. People that though milk cam from brown cows would have been far ahead of many of the people she taught. Most had no idea milk came from cows at all. They thought it came from the store.

I grew up in a rural area so I knew that milk came from cows.

My mother would mix chocolate syrup in pure milk so I knew exactly where chocolate milk came from.

However................ I knew of my real ignorance when my mother explained where babies really come from!!! :)

The hullabaloo about Russian propaganda being posted on Facebook in an attempt to get Trump elected is more of an infomercial for Facebook (and an attempt to drive up stock values for Facebook) than a real news story.

I've done a lot of research on the so called tech boom here in the S.F. area and I can tell you that the value of Facebook (and other social media companies) is greatly overrated and their stock is nothing but a ponzie scheme.

See my previous post on the tech boom and housing crisis in the S.F. area.

We've all read it, it is an old story and if you want, you can search for the discussion about the story and the snopes review on this site for proof that we all know the story. The fact that two non-connected stories cover the same topic doesn't mean they are connected. But thank you for showing us how worldly you are and attacking the OP for no reason. You are cool.
