I think dependence on artificial intelligence - like the internet, calculator and the cell phone - makes us just plain dumber. Cell phones: How many phone numbers did you know by heart? I must have know about 12 numbers of my friends and/or girlfriends. Calculators: Kids are losing the ability to do math. The internet: Einstein said "Why try and remember everything when you can just look it up?!" (or something to that effect). Kids today know "Hey Siri: convert pounds to kilograms" and they get an answer. Convert ˚F to ˚C (or even ˚Kelvin). Even we depend on wire gauge charts and cable resistance charts. I remember the engineers notebook. Thicker than a telephone book and FILLED with factoids. All of which are more easily looked up on the internet. At least looking that stuff up in a book made you remember certain tidbits. We're trading real intelligence for artificial intelligence. And it's leading us down a rabbit hole. LOOK AT THIS POST! No misspelled words. I don't even need to know how to spell. Spell check and auto correct take care of all that for me. Note: I do spell pretty good. Fat finger corrections are appreciated.
