I was curious and wanted to see if it was actually rated for T-Rex. If it is, couldn't find it, but it wouldn't surprise me either way.

I have a handgun (Thompson-Center Contender) chambered for the same round round (45-70 Govt) and it definitely lets everyone around know when it's been fired! Don't know what kind of muzzle energy it develops, though I'm sure it's a lot less than in the 1895 SBL, which is somewhere north of 3000 ft-lb (and which is rated for elk). My .338 Lapua Magnum approaches 5000 ft-lb (and is rated for grizzly). By way of comparison, a .22 LR is a bit over 100 ft-lb and a .50 BMG is over 13,000 ft. The former is rated for varmint, and the latter is rated for anything with a pulse.

I saw a revolver chambered for the 45-70 Govt. at a gun show once. It was a monster in itself. I've shot many .44 magnums but don't think I'd like to take that one on much less walk lopsided with that monster holstered.

When I was in, the shooting instructor said (this is the jokes thread) the .50 BMG was not to be used as a anti-personnel weapon (most efficient use of resources, not some stupid law of war) , we were instructed to shoot aim at the belt-buckle to destroy equipment because, if we had to use it, it would sound better on the report.
