Lots of mis-understood things in my life. The one that comes to mind the most is "The Beverly Hillbillies". At the end of the show they'd sing that song (in part) "and have a heapin' helpin' of our Husky Tallow Tea." For years I wondered what "Tallow Tea" was.

Another one was "Gilligan's Island". "if not for the coverage of the fearless crew the Minnow would be lost."

Can't think of any others just now.

in the opening of Family Guy, the lyrics near the end of the song are,

All the things that make us
Stewie: laugh and cry!

I can’t not hear Stevie say, “f*n cry”

A blonde walks into an electronics store
She looks around and eventually calls a worker over and says “I’d like to buy this tv”

The worker tells her kindly, “I apologize miss, but store policy is that we don’t sell things to blondes”.

Very angry, she leaves and goes to a salon and dyes her hair black. Then she goes back the next day.

“I’d like to buy this tv please”.

“Sorry miss, store policy doesn’t allow us to sell things to blondes”.

She then leaves and goes out and dyes her hair purple. She comes back the next day.

“I’d like to buy this tv please”.

“Sorry M’am, store policy…”

“Yes I know your policy! But let me ask you, how do you know every time that I’m blonde!?”

“M’am, that’s a microwave”.

If I may offer clarification of post #5,739:

Actually, that was originally called the Darkens Emitting Arsenide Diode (DEAD) in the 1975 April Fool's Day announcement.

"Another great prank part was dreamed up by former Linear Tech CTO Bob Dobkin. Now part of Analog Devices, Dobkin dreamed up the DEAD in 1975, a Darkness Emitting Arsenide Diode. Pease noted, “This had many features— light output never fell off with time, and they were cheap due to high yield. Just check the acronym.”

The good old days.

Years ago, CQ Magazine in their April issue had an article about a new stealth technology fighter jet the USAF was developing. This was back when stealth technology was a new and not well understood technology. The article expounded on the technology and how great it was and that the USAF was elated with it progress. The last sentence in the article however said that they had lost the plane because when it was parked on the apron the pilot had unfortunately forgotten to turn off the stealth controller and walked away and now due to the stealth being engaged, they could not find the airplane.

In the April issue of S9 magazine in or about 1968 they ran an article about a do-it-yourself CB antenna the called the "Vampire Bat Antenna". It was simply about one meter of coaxial cable and two one hundred ohm two-watt carbon comp resistors in parallel. The article said it has a VSWR or almost exactly 1:1. Many subscribers built the antenna and were very upset when it couldn't "get out". In the next issue they published some of the letters from unhappy subscribers. The editor's reply was to "...say the author's name out loud". It was written by Howard Itaverk.

50 years later I'm still laughing.
