The Jokes thread

I heard a joke about the advantages of all electric homes VS having a combination of electric and gas appliances. Someone commented that a gas stove was much better for cooking, but another person said a gas television was better because it had more fabulous color. :D

Don’t get it. But seriously having two separate energy sources is obviously better in these days of electrical “public safety power shutoff”. Isn’t that the peak of PR speak? Can also be translated as “screw the customers” but look good.

When I switched from POTS phone service to cable, one thing I lost was the phone company's backup power. Now, when cable/internet goes down, so does the phone. This especially sucks after a hurricane: even if I lost power, I still could depend on the phone working.

At least I have cellular as a backup -- but we lost that, too, during a hurricane past (Irma took out our local tower).

I have gas.

And a Carbon 3 coal powered TV. Makes my eyes tear up after a while. Brain goes foggy too.

Had a 9 hour power outage. Scheduled maintenance on the line. Oven could not be used, but a match (or lighter) would light the stove. Gas heat would not run because it's a high efficiency furnace, needing all kinds of electrical signals. But the fireplace worked nicely.

Oh, I can light the grill to cook but my last gas range and heater had to have electricity to work. Now I'm all-electric with a generator and LED flashlights when GA Power out. Seems like they had an NC solenoid valve on the gas supply if my memory serves me right.

My gas range has electronic ignition for the top burners, but you can still light them with a match or lighter. The oven, on the other hand, the gas valve is electronically controlled. And there are two "Hot" elements used to light the oven. With no power there's no way to trigger the gas valve for the oven. As a kid growing up I remember the pilot lights on the stove and oven. No electricity needed whatsoever. And when my parents brought home their first modern stove - it had a cook light, which I thought was brilliant. My how far we've come since then.
