The very idea that decreasing the amount of INCREASE, can be called 'cutting' the budget is preposterous. When did the American people get so dumb as to allow a news agency to report such devious dealings as 'cuts'. We need some news people with testicular fortitude, and the ability to deliver correct information to the people.

Simply parroting the information given to them from congressional committee press secretaries perpetuates the lies that the budget is being CUT. They simply decrease the amount of yearly increases and pat themselves on the back, and most of the population accepts that the politicians have done a GOOD thing.

Yes it is more complicated than that, but many industries struggled with and closed specifically due to high electrical costs.

In my area there are 7+ lumber or paper mills that are idle, some 18,000 jobs for 2 years because electricity costs made them un viable.

Taking the wages of 18K people out of the economy impacts on all the spin off economies.

An increase in the light bill crashed your entire economy? There's got to be more to it than that. Our economy is plummetting and theres more than light bills involved. The cost of everything is ever-increasing. If the government ran the grid would you still be paying the same for your electric bill as you did a decade ago? I think it would have risen all the same; maybe not as much, but who knows? Without knowing the full scope of your province's dealings, it sounds as if one monopoly (the government) was traded out for another monopoly (a company in the private sector). If there were multiple companies vying for the same electricity customers, would the price go down? It should, I would think. That should be the incentive, competition.

Companys vying for the same electric customers hasnt caused the price to go down here. They all want max profit & arent undercuttin anyone by any apreciable amount, In fact prices keep rising & they all go up together.

Solutions are spawned out of necessity. Maybe when the prices reach a level where it is cost effective to do so, an enterprising type will start selling (and financing at a reasonable rate) consumer-level solar/wind/other alternative electricity solutions. Then the power company(s) will have competition again.

Supply and demand; stuff is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. the prices set themselves. one can't say "the power company charges too much"; if people are still paying, obviously it's not "too much" only when people refuse to pay will it be "too much"
