hi, sorry for refloat this thread, im triying to do the same thing but with the tape deck RS-CH7, i connect it to 20v AC, short power and GND, but nothin happens, any ideas?, thxs!!!

It's called foam rot. That stuff naturally breaks down and gets sticky.

in addition to the AC power supply, pin 1 of the cable (POWER) must be connected to ground.
