Hello,

I had a thing in mind. It is possible to have something like TEC that converts electricity into cold, or possibly a TEC with only cool side. I know that we get cold side by cooling hot side.

Thanks

Worse than that, a TEC adds about 10 units of heat to every one it moves, and all 11 units have to be dissipated from the hot side. They can be much more efficient but at a fraction of their rated maximum.

Not without violating both the first and second laws of thermodynamics.

The first law is basically the conservation of energy -- you make something cool by removing heat. That heat has to go somewhere -- it goes to the hot side where it has to be removed by being in some kind of thermodynamic contact (conduction, convection, radiation) with something cooler.

The second law says that in order to move heat from something cold to something hot, you have to use additional energy as well otherwise you would be decreasing the overall entropy of the universe. In the case of a Peltier device, that additional energy is the electrical energy driving it.

RE:""want a TEC with only cool side""

Sorry man, may be I want the battery with only plus wire... Or lovely road in the meadows having only one end...
Nope, of course You must cool it, and cool very harsh. Normally it is done by copper platelet drilled for running water. However - (this is VERY rarely used and most of Peltier producers may swear it is impossible, but I have personal success to demonstrate that it is possible) - You may use a ultra-strong air blower IF You are able to comply with Watts per cm2 (or other words heat-flow density) enough for Peltier. The problem is that it demands ca 100W or more per couple of cm2. There would not be any problem if the same power would go through the say dm2. Just at the technicks there are only one such device demanding similarly so dense, that is PC play-computer video-supercard cooler. And even then You must use only the models with Heat-Pipes, and not a 3 or 4 but at least the 8 pieces or smaller Peltiers with a 6 pipes. I got the 110W dT=138C 2x2cm up to minus 40...45 at +50 Spanish summer or -80 at room STP. Sorry but such cooler is not the cheapest computer gadget, price over $200. With a prost radiator - that is sure waste of time and money, its well proven on my personal skin.
