I read a story of a woman who convinced her 90 year old mother to get her first colonoscopy. The mother had a bad feeling about it, but reluctantly agreed.

During the procedure, her intestine was damaged. The medical staff didn't catch it and she bled out. Scarey.

Very true and in the US, it is generally considered that the risks of the screening outweigh benefits after one is in their late 70's. Of course, there are exceptions based on medical history.

 

Since I live quite a way from the surgical center I usually get a motel room nearby. Never done it without but have had both general anesthesia and the Propofol – "The Milk of Amnesia" sedation. Once woke up in the middle of the procedure, looked up at the doctor and said "you do realize I am awake" and freaked him out. Last I remembered was him yelling "get this man back under". I was also told by a nurse I woke up during an 8 1/2 hours surgery to remove bone spurs and fuse 4 of my neck vertebrae where they go in from the front of the neck and push everything out of the way to get to the spine. I apparently created quite a ruckus scaring the surgical staff but I have no memory of it. So there are different levels of awareness under anesthesia.

 

If you haven't heard it before...

 

For ages I wanted to go into the woods again, and cook over a natural fire, on a stone slab. I'll chop a few veggies, and some meat.

Maybe this winter, next summer for sure.

Yup no Fowl/Foul Bird this year just a nice ham. Wife promised our younger daughter a turkey when she comes home from that other Georgia (the one near Turkey ain't that a hoot) for Christmas. I'll try and sneak a real Turducken in w/ crawfish etouffee stuffing instead. I did miss my yearly dose of oyster stuffing though, first time I can ever remember not having it for Thanksgiving.

The Fowl is in the grill too but it's not for me.

 

Turkey has been in the oven for 3 hrs, I learned that it isn't smart to turn up the heat, if you're at elevation. We're at 4774 or there about, so your supposed to increase cooking time.

I could tell it was thanksgiving in the US, (Canada's was a month ago) We get an influx of turkeys fleeing across the border seeking refuge to escape execution!

The one thing that reminds me of Thanksgiving is a plate of food, but without Cranberry Sauce it's absent the personality it deserves.

I grew up remembering the canned cranberry sauce, people make their own, I get that but, it's what takes me back to fond memories of family get togethers. Some people can't do the pre-canned stuff but to me it's the only thing that says Thanksgiving or Christmas.

I've never liked stuffing in a turkey, nothing wrong but it's never looked appealing to me. My wife complained this year because she was in bed while I did everything, she didn't get "Stove Top Stuffing" I purchase a brand at "Target" I also got a pre-brined Turkey at Trader Joe's. I'm going to do that every year from now on, free range organic, Usually I purchase one from a friend that raises them for the State Fair but she had to take care of her mothers affairs who died about 3 weeks ago.

Growing up in the south there were some things that were not available in the grocery store such as "fresh cranberries". So all we had were canned and my personal preference is solidly on the jelly side. Kinda like when we lived in Maine and grocery stores didn't have grits.

Ever since I was a kid, my mother would serve cranberry sauce by extracting the complete cylinder of jelly out of the can, and then she would slice it into perfectly flat and round disks which she would then serve on the plates in a rather elegant fashion.

 

Coming from New England, just north of Plymouth county where one of the worlds largest collections of cranberry farms are, we always had fresh cranberry sauce, both chunky or smooth and none with corrugated marks from a can. Hence, I don’t know what y’all are talkin’ about.
