Hi all,
Could anyone suggest me an ultrasonic sensor(detection range from 1mm to 600mm)which can be interface to avr 8-bit microcontroller. I read about HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor. But it has sensing range is about 3mm to 400mm only.

thanks in advance

The range of the HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor is 2cm to 400cm (not mm).
For he range over which you need to detect, 1mm to 600mm, it is not practical to use ultrasonics. In fact, it would be difficult, if not impossible, to find an off-the-shelf solution of any kind.
What material is the target made of? How is it oriented to the source of the measurements? If you can give more information on exactly what you are trying to do, we may be able to suggest a workable solution.

Thanks for immediate reply and sorry for wrongly mentioning of cm instead of mm. I want to measure the water level in the tank. For my application i want to use contact less sensor and also distance between water is about 600 mm..

If you really mean a maximum distance of 600mm, then the HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor will do the job. just make sure it is mounted more than 2cm from the highest level of the water.
