Speed control for a brushless motor

I have read many reports that say you can’t put a speed controller on an induction motor as they over heat,
Speed control on 1ph induction motors is usually relegated to Fan applications
The only real success with speed control on an induction motor is via a VFD with a 3ph motor, they come with 1ph supply options and why they are the method of choice for home built Machining applications.
Apart from the VFD route, there is the 2hp - 3hp treadmill motors and controllers.
Often picked up kerbside free, not working etc.

thanks guys, this has given me a lot on insight into different sorts of motors, and how it seems advertisers don’t really know what they are selling.

Its a shame that a lot of the really cheap bench grinders from the likes of lidi and Aldi have speed control, but it disappears on mid range stuff, and comes back again on really expensive stuff.

I did read somewhere that the Aldi ones does have an induction motor but still has some sort of VFD on it.
I just wonder if I could take the VDF off the Aldi one I have and wire it into the one I linked earlier in screwfix, and see what happens.

I can always blow up the motor and return it!?!
Or I will have to try and find one that’s advertised as DC and doesn’t mention induction anywhere in the ad which isn’t very easy!

Wish me luck, and thanks for your help
