Specifying Snubbers

How do I specify an RC Snubber (component) for a 250v 13A Inductive Load? Is it best practice to fit a snubber across the switched Live & Neutral (Load) or across the switch (Relay contacts or Triac)?

The snubber needs to be rated for a current greater than the switched current and it's reverse breakdown voltage must be greater than the voltage being switched.

Don't know what you mean by live/neutral in this context. The snubber needs to be placed such that it limits the back EMF generated by the inductive load and seen by the switch.

It is generally best to put it directly across the switch, since that absorbs any transients from the line inductance.

I have seen circuits where it is connected across the switch (relay or triac) and others where it is connected across the Load.
