Thank you man. You don't need to go to the trouble of getting the schematic for me but it is greatly appreciated. For your reference here is the schematic.

I live in Ireland. The European unit works for me.There are different units.
There is a WTCP 51 for European 230VAC and the schematic is shown above.
There is also P51 power unit with 110/220 selector switch for US market, no schematic to be found.
No problem. This what we do on AAC when under lockdown and bored.Thank you man. You don't need to go to the trouble of getting the schematic for me but it is greatly appreciated.
I believe it is the correct schematicThere are different units.

It is 95% correct. It does not show the voltage selection switch.I believe it is the correct schematic
OP has already stated that the fuse doesn't blow if the iron isn't attached.Important
Do not change the 110/220 voltage switch setting until you have taken a resistance measurement at the power prongs.
When I turn on the station woth the iron unplugged it stays on. However when I plug the iron into the station the fuse blows straight away.
That's odd. My main iron is over 40 years old and the cord doesn't get much abuse.Since it is an old iron, the insulation on the wires for the iron were completely worn and broken down. They were shorting the circuit.
With no load on the step down transformer the setting of the 110/220 switch doesn't matter. The fuse should not blow.OP has already stated that the fuse doesn't blow if the iron isn't attached.
Yes it is odd. However this iron was used for years in a industrial setting. That's odd. My main iron is over 40 years old and the cord doesn't get much abuse.
It's a good iron when you take care of it.Yes it is odd. However this iron was used for years in a industrial setting.
