Convicted child molesters could be a reason.
Convicted rapists could be a reason.
Convicted sexual predators could be a reason.
Seeing your neighbor wiht a black eye all tore up in his mug shot, checking out the latest talent walking the strip, finding my future ex wife, knowing thats why mommy didn't come home last night. They sell out everyweek. I never woulda thought it woulda been a good industry either but I've made some rags myself before. Did one on area strip clubs, and another for 2 years on golf. Free and $1 magazines and newpapers are good business. I just know they come out on Mon, and by Sun they have 1 left of the 50 they dropped off.

You just said these people where convicted, right? So instead of trying to make the penitentiary system actually work and make the inmates come out as law abiding citizens, the government allows the publication of such papers that distil fear in the citizens and break the internal bonds of the society.
So much for the criminals' second chance in life.

Well done, you people, well done...

With pedophiles the reoccurrence is way up there. (90%?)

This is not about second chances, this is about protecting what is important.

You have kids?

Being a felon is permanent, it has never and shall never be about second chances. If a man stays clean they don't go back to jail.

If you are found innocent after serving time there are other avenues to correct that. If the case is outrageous enough the governor of the state can pardon you, which wipes the slate clean.

And even in those rare but unfair cases, you can ruin a man's life by destroying his reputation and declaring him as a felon in the local paper.

I don't know... here in Greece the enforcing the law is a job for the police and the police only. Individuals don't have to look behind every corner before they take it.

Maybe you guys prefer it that way.

Because that would cost lots and lots of money. Then include the huge numbers of non violent offenders doing time because of the drug war thats not gonna happen. We housing prisoners in the desert in tents.. California is releasing rapist and muggers, to make room for pot growers. Look at the canadian prison system, then imagine what that would cost with the ammount of prisoners we have in the US. No way thats gonna happen withoutt a total overhaul of the justice system. For instance we just had a guy here who robbed 3 banks to pay his mortgage with a gun. The let him repay the $2000 he robbed and let him go free. Another guy walk's into a bank here a month later and tells the clerk "Gimme all your money!" She responds sorry its 4:30 pm, we don't have any money its been dropped already. He then says "Sorry, its ok, and walks out the door." No gun, no nothing, and thier gonna give this guy like 20 years for armed robbery. Not that I think Armed robbery is good, but there needs to be standardized penalty. One guy should not go free when another guy gets 20 years for the same crime.

Another point is our prison system is not based on reforming people, its based on housing them for as cheap as possible and non violent criminals tend to come out of prison as violent criminals. The US penal system is more of a street college then anything else.

As many of you will be shocked I used to be a hippie and travel the country following bands selling things in the parking lot. I've had numerous friends get picked up by the DEA, Cops, and everyone else usualy having to do about 5 years. They go in peace , love, hippie, vegans, and come out thugs with tatoo's on their chest that say "Dirty White Boy" or "RESPECT" They got out and I Didn';t even know em anymore.

For those that wonder I have spend a total of 1 night in jail and it sucked! Cement bed, little blanket, polish sausage, a piece of white bread and a cup of coffie was all you got for breakfast. Note...You can sell your coffee if your not a coffee drinker so if you planning on doing some time, give up coffee its a great money maker. I told my cellmate don't wake me unless my name was called for court and gave him my breakfast. He was there a couple months. I slept in till around 10am then got called for court and released that day.
