Apparently, a sense of humor or appreciation for the absurd is not a criterion to be a moderator.
There was a hilarious post recently on another site advertising antique and valuable vacuum tubes that the seller had carefully opened to remove the black stuff on the inside of the glass envelopes. My reaction was the same as yours. Anyone who would buy that device (or "cleaned" vacuum tubes) needs education, not thread locking. Maybe OT would be an better sub-forum than marketplace, but why not move the thread rather than lock it? That is, take the less destructive path.
