Hello,

I want to encapsulate single SMD LED chips using epoxy resin so that are waterproof.

I am considering standard LED chips like those listed in the attached table.

The idea is to submerge them in fish tanks and on top of the soil in outdoor garden applications.

Do you foresee over heating problems doing this with single chips?Screenshot_20190606-200905.png

Do you think having the air trapped around the chip would help in its cooling?
Definitely not ...air is a very good insulator , but it does move ...convectioning heat away , without convection currents it's trouble ...

Resin is a much better thermal conductor .

Self adhesive strip led lights are sold either waterproof or standard ...waterproof have a covering of flexible resin , I would bet they last longer than standard because of the better heat transfer of the resin ...
