sla battery recovery problems

1. there is one of six cell keep hot, smell and dry up;
2. the voltage becomes from 0.4 v to 5.6 v and then 2.1 v after few hours
any one know can this battery be able to recovery?

Thank you, can you tell a little more about the reason? I have quite few of that kind of batteries.
some of them can be charged at 7 - 8 A some time.
I did refilled them with distilled water.

How does one do that with a sealed lead acid battery?
There is usually a plastic disk on top of each cell that you can pry off. Under that is a rubber cap that can be pulled off reveling the filler hole of the cell. I have managed to get some cells back by putting battery acid in the cell, but mostly they are dead.
