Hi guys

I'm sorry I'm not very good with motors and I've just been asked to look at a scaffolders 110v winch. The winch winds up but not down? Any ideas on what this could be and how I would go about testing it out?

i'd start with the switches for up and down. check wire and continuity

 

are therew limit switches? that might be a problem.

 

If its winding one way its not the motor, its the switches.

 

If induction motor you also have to have a reversing circuit.
Does it actually power the motor on down?
For a scaffold I would assume you don't need motor power on down, just a centrifugal clutch/brake mechanism?
