Hi, I am a complete novice to this but I like to try and solve issues with technology.

I organise an event that involves a group of people (ie a school) run a the distance of a marathon in a relay format.

Each person runs a single lap of a predefined circuit until the distance is covered.

I need some sort of device that will keep a record of the laps that are complete. I was thinking along the lines of having a sensor in the relay baton and when it passes through/ by a point, a lap is recorded. Unfortunately I cant simply count the people as on occasions they will run in groups.

Is this something that is possible to be done?

There will only be one baton used for the full event
