Significance of amplifiers

I would like to know why amplifiers are given so much space in Analog topics.

Is it because they are the most complicated circuits?
is it because they are found in many applications?

Without amplification, you have only less and less signal as you change the signal. Only a few stages and there is nothing useful left to work with.

Gain blocks may be regarded as the 'fundamental element' of all circuits...

Note: Your perspective may be assisted in this regard via the observation that attenuation is, in essence, 'negative (or 'sub unity') amplification'...
