Wow. That's so positive! Let's gather other members stand on this. Thanks Martinez. There's plenty of material out there to help you learn proper soldering techniques ... start by making a search in YouTube, I guarantee you'll find something worth your while
The very best of reference I need the most. Thanks bertus.Hello,
Eevblog has some videos on soldering:

I think I have come to the right place. Thanks Rob.On this site alone there is a ton of things on soldering everything from tit selection to soldering techniques to SMD soldering and you could also get on the cheap soldering practice boards. so yes go ahead and take a shot and watch some videos especially the ones that talk about tip care so the soldering tips last a long time.
TIP selection.from tit selection
That's so great of you. Thanks.TIP selection.
Soldering is easy when you have the mind for it. I tried to teach a woman to solder and she couldn't solder to save the earth from extinction. some people just can't get the knack of it. But I agree, YouTube is a good starting place. Just be sure to review several videos. I've seen some where people don't know what they're talking about.
Find one you think is a good video and post it. We'll review and critique it for you.
WowHow things have changed. I just picked up a soldering iron at 7 years old and started soldering. There was no YouTube, just YouDo.
Same here (I was in my early teens, I think). A bit of trial and error and I was making decent solder joints within ten or fifteen minutes, which is not to say that it didn't take a bit more practice before I could consistently make very good joints. And that was before I understood about the value of cleaning the tip or the existence of external fluxes or even the value of cleaning the oxide off the parts to be soldered. Some of those I picked up by trial and error as I encountered problems, others were pointed out to me at some point by someone else. I learned about external fluxes when I saw a small can of flux at Radio Shack when I was perusing the shelves and read the directions. What an epiphany! How things have changed. Like, perhaps acid core solder is not all that ideal for an AM transistor radio! Some of those I picked up by trial and error....
I don't think that I ever made that mistake, but it wasn't because I would have known better. Sometimes we just get lucky and the opportunity doesn't come along before the knowledge necessary to pass it by.Like, perhaps acid core solder is not all that ideal for an AM transistor radio!
