I am trying to repair a Sage Espresso Machine. The owner says that there was an electrical storm and the machine stopped working. It is now dead with no sign of life.

I have found R3 100 Ω maybe 3W open circuit. The problem is I have no tools and no parts except a DMM.

I am in Rayol-Canadel-sur-mer. The nearest towns are Cavalaire and Le Lavandou, France (also I do have to drive to Nice to pick up someone at the airport). Does anyone know the closest place where I can find a soldering iron and some resistors? Also I can't use Amazon because I will be leaving in a week.

Also can someone help me find the circuit diagram for any Sage BES800 series machine?

Hi MrC,
Is this link helpful for the manual.

Yes, that is a big help. I do recall seeing that. Thanks for reminding me. R3 function would be the same as R2 shown in the diagram. I will have to check those capacitors for shorts. That would be the likely cause of the dead resistor.

My fallback plan is to bring the machine back to the UK by car in a week's time. I should have better access to parts.

Do you know of any electronics supply stores around Luton and St Albans?

I found a soldering iron at Mr Bricolage. It is not the capacitor. The short across the LV power supply still exists. Next step is to remove the zener diode and test for shorts. I don’t know the expected zener voltage as yet.

My final prognosis is that there is a short across the power supply rails in the MCU. Looks like this one is getting a new board.
