The proper term is "breakdown." You might also want to search on the term "zener," and the exact phrase "avalanche current."

Of course it is not recommended to use a diode in this fashion. The breakdown voltage, when exceeded makes the diode a great conductor.
Zener voltage is speced for zener diodes which are meant to conduct in reverse bias mode at a specified voltage.
