Hi All,

I found this group through online searches to fix my Avanti EWC-1201 wine cooler which is about 7 years old...we woke up one day (possibly after a short power outage) to find it chirping with the front display flashing and none of the buttons being operative.

Upon opening the back the fan was not running, but disconnecting the peltier unit (unplug the ground connection) allows the fan to spin up again. However, the chirping does not stop and re-connecting the peltier stops the fan again. In some reports online I had seen that the peltier disconnect/reconnect can act as a hard reset allowing the unit to recover fully. But this is not the case.

Any thoughts from any of you on the next steps to debug? The board I have is: HYS80-12J as seen here:

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Thanks for this amazing resource!

I can report another HYS80-12J with a C8 that has gone bad. Looking at the schematics (thanks!) it's clear why this capacitor is under huge pressure, compared to its size.
The phenomenon in my case was that the wine cooler refused to work under load - the light was blinking and it seems as if it fails to start. Disconnecting the TEC made it work perfectly (but no cooling obviously), which focused the issue around the parts that feeds the beast.
A single C8 replacement did the trick.
Note that in my circuit there was some mismatch in names between the schematics provided here (e.g. D6 is the name of a diode on another part of the circuit), but the region of the TEC seems to have the same connectivity and component types and values.

Thank you for this fantastic forum!
Was the symptom that once you disconnected the TEC would recover the blinking light and the fan(s) would spin normally? Here I'm still getting low power symptoms, the fan is spinning with the TEC disconnected but slowly, and the front display is still blinking and chirping. Thoughts?

Have you tried replacing C8, 47 μF / 25V?
I took it out and it measured correct...will replace it anyway.

I think one of C7, C8 (the two big capacitors up front, 220 uF / 200V) has leaked-- no bulge on the top but a dried liquid underneath. I removed both and measured them and I think C8 measures correctly but C7 measures '0'. So I'll replace both.

Is there a list of all capacitors on these boards?

Don't go by measured values alone. If you are going to the trouble of removing the capacitor then you might as well replace it.

There are different lists. Go by what is printed on the body of the capacitor.
Create a new list for your HYS80-12J for our records.
