I recently became aware that my recently born, first great-grand-child, will not receive any kind of preventative vaccines as a baby or growing up.
Her parents are deeply religious and evidentally this is outside the purview of beliefs her parents hold.
The line of thought in this line of reasoning, never fails to confuse & amaze me, from those anti-vaccine!!?
I would bet this line of thought would never occur in such disasters as the great plague that occurred in 1600's London . where a 5th of the population was doomed to die.
Covid demonstrates how it could happen without vaccine, and still we have this line of thought from a few hold outs !!

Unfortunately it seems that a large percentage of the populace lives in an "alternate facts" reality on many issues (climate change, election integrity, etc.) , so it's no surprise that includes anti-vaxers.

 

When I was growing up, in elementary school, I had a friend who had had polio.
To say that his life was difficult, was an understatement.
Elementary grade children have lots and lots of energy. Running all the time, riding bicycles, playing sports, climbing trees, etc.
But he couldn’t do any of those.
If I close my eyes, I can still see him by the shade of a tree, longing to join all of us healthy kids cavorting around during the rec period. The sadness in his face is something that is forever etched in my memory.

I am also going to shut my mouth, to avoid insulting those parents who on purpose condemn their children to such life.

Max, congrats on arriving at this special time in life. My first great grand child was born a few months ago.
You are in a unique position to help develop the growth of this individual, irregardless of the difficulties imposed upon them. Share what you can. My SIL has been banned from her grandchildren’s life’s, due to their family dynamics. Not something I’d wish upon anyone.

It's their young and innocent.

Otherwise, you have two options:

1. Gently attempt to convince them otherwise;
2. Report them to the State like a good comrade.

 

You are in a unique position to help develop the growth of this individual, irregardless of the difficulties imposed upon them. Share what you can.

Unfortunately they live out of town, in the country so I do not see them all that often,

 

Congratulations Max. I have two grand children and another on the way.
In my opinion, the matter is outside of your scope and you just have to wish that all turns out well for the child.

that is the most extreme case that i am aware of but ... like it or not - ultimately it is the parents choice.

oculation is a fairly recent thing and human race existed for much longer. with 8b of humans on this planet it is clear that survival is in our genes. not everyone made it though, and many who did survive, still may have suffered immensely... they should be reminded that the long forgotten diseases are having comeback, after migrants are overrunning many places...

i wish the baby good luck, at least until it grows up and can make those decisions on its own. now the question becomes if the child does catch something that vaccine would have prevented, would the parents still refuse treatment?

 

Know the feeling well Max. Our daughter and her 4 children will not eat refined sugar (but maple syrup is OK) or anything containing Gluten or Cow's Milk. Not sure about the school mandatory vaxes but they would not get any Covid vaxes. Can you imagine a childhood devoid of candy, cakes, pies, doughnuts, etc... They do get "Pancakes" and "Muffins" but made from almond flour and almond milk or some other godawful thing. All you cand do is sigh and wonder why. We sure didn't bring her up that way...

 

My Daughter started out just looking for my Granddaughters allergy to Peanuts, Milk, overall some foods. The family adjusts to the type of foods she can have, she is antivax now she didn’t get the Shot, nor any of the family. I got 2 but didn’t get any more.

Don't worry, I am sure he kids will be quite healthy neurotics. As long as they are not shot at school.

We worry about all the wrong things.
