Legendary actor, two-time Oscar winner and author Gene Hackman and his wife, classical pianist Betsy Arakawa, were found dead Wednesday afternoon in their home in the Santa Fe Summit community northeast of the city.
Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza confirmed just after midnight Thursday the couple had died, along with their dog.
Mendoza said in an interview Wednesday evening there was no immediate indication of foul play. He did not provide a cause of death or say when the couple might have died.

I read a bit about him. When he moved to New York, trying to break into acting, he roomed with two others in the same position. Their names were Dustin Hoffman and Robert Duvall. Just, Wow.

I expect he was seriously ill. Suicide might have been a good option for him, but not so good for wife and dog.

We all die but some never live. They seemed to have lived and loved.

I don't know what happened here at the personal level if it wasn't an accident.

A police detective who responded to the scene said that they believed the couple had been dead for some time because Ms Arakawa's remains showed "body decomposition" and "mummification" in the hands and feet.

"The male decedent also showed obvious signs of death, similar and consistent with the female decedent," said the search warrant.

Near Ms Arakawa's head was a portable heater, which the detective determined could have been brought down in the event that the woman abruptly fell to the ground.

A prescription bottle and scattered pills were found on the bathroom countertop close to her body.

Gene Hackman obviously had many outstanding performances and every one has his favorite.
To me, it is The Conversation, because of its electronic gadgets and application of the technology.
Additionally the ending leaves one in deep thought.

Searching for something kind to say, it was considerate to not leave their dog an orphan. There must have been something terribly wrong to drive them to such a thing.
Drive them to what thing?

I just saw this and read the linked article. My first thought, particularly given the death of one of three dogs, is probably carbon monoxide poisoning, especially given that they said there are no signs of foul play.

Why is everyone jumping to the conclusion that he killed his wife and dog (but only one of them) and then himself????

What have I missed?
When I made that post, I had read that the two of them were found dead lying in bed. That sounds like a suicide pact. But it turned out to be false. As I now understand they were found on the floors of two different rooms, and CO was ruled out. Very mysterious.
