Question about iphone(Lightning) chargers

ok, so I a m just wondering about phone chargers. I see all the different tech words like PD and fast charging and all that. From what I understand you need a usb c to lightning cable to use fast charging. And if you want to use a usb-a connector it won’t fast charge….?

I’m just curious about how this works is it software or something that is limiting this?

I want to build a usb-a fast charger, so that I don’t have to upgrade all my charging cords. It seems to me that as long as you build a charger that can supply the voltage and current it shouldn’t matter where it gets it from, be it a usb a port to lightning connector or a usb C to lightning.

any help understanding what is going on before I start trying to rebuild my broken car charger would be awesome. Right now it is just your standard cigarette lighter 12v plug to dual usb-a outputs. I then have a bunch of USB-a to lightning cables I use at my house and in my car for charging my phone.

Thanks for any insight into this. I just really don’t want to waste money buying parts if it isn’t gonna work regardless.

Consider that for any charging action to be correct, the supplied voltage and current must match the charged devices requirements, which are negotiated thru communications thru that USB cable.
Consider also that whatever charger you create needs to provide the correct voltage and current for the charging requirementsof your connected device.
THAT MEANS that you need to know exactly what those requirements are AND the required charging values. Burning up a phone will be an expensive ordeal!

iPhones with lightning connectors support ONLY USB-C PD charging and not QC or other fast-charge options using USB-A connectors as supported by Android phones.

USB-C PD charging requires negotiation between the charger and device which requires extra conductors in the USB cable. If you connect a higher voltage to your phone.... well, you'll need new cables AND a new phone.
