Hi, Im designing a 24V reverse battery connection based on article from Analog devices:

So at the last page, which is the circuit below:

Could someone explain to me what is the meaning of:
"D2 prevents MP3’s gate from pumping below ground, and the battery charger output with it, when a reversed battery is hot plugged."
Im not very clear and understand about the meaning of it. Thank you for helping me
