What is this circuit for? Do you need a constant current of 10mA during 500us (1kHz @50%) ???

You will have some difficulties finding a component for this voltage.

Do you already have a power supply that can output this voltage?

I believe there is no such thing as a 40KV semiconductor. My guess would be a very expensive vacuum tube because mechanical switches can't go that fast.

40kv @ 10mA is 400 Watts. Are you sure about that requirement?

You will likely need to use a transformer, like an automotive ignition coil, to create such pulses at that high of a voltage. There are plenty of relatively low-voltage switches/transistors/MOSFETs/IGBT's that are suitable for the primary side of the coil.

Here are some OnSemi part numbers for their ignition IBGTs:
NGD15N41A: Ignition IGBT, 15 A, 410 V
MGP15N40CL: N-channel Ignition IGBT, 15 A, 410 V
NGD18N40A: Ignition IGBT, N-Channel, 18 A, 400 V
NGB8204N: N-Channel Ignition IGBT 18 A, 400 V
NGB8202N: N-Channel Ignition IGBT 20 A, 400 V
NGB8207AN: N-Channel Ignition IGBT 20 A, 365 V

Well there you go! PPM Power in UK. Just strip everything after "UK" off the link and you have the corporation.
