Pulse without logic gates

Hello People,

I'm looking for some advice on building a simple circuit which sends a short pulse through a coil on activation of a sensor, then removes power to the coil.

I have an idea how to do this by directing the signal from the sensor to a grounded capacitor then to one input of an XOR gate and using the unadulterated signal from the sensor as the other input, the problem is that I would like to achieve the same result without using any logic gates.

Is there a way to achieve the same short pulse to the coil using transistors or something instead of the XOR gate?

Is 555 timer in monostable connection a better solution?

If I understand correctly you want the coil powered for a short time, even if the input signal is still on?

Yes that is it exactly, power to the coil only for a short time even though the input signal is still on.

I have a 555 timer around here somewhere, monostable connection huh i'm gonna go look that up.

Is it possible to determine the duration of the on time using this setup?
