Hey guys, so my instructor asked us to make a project involving flip flops. Any ideas please? I badly need them. Thank you.

Flip flops are great because they let you convert toggle switches (expensive) to cheap momentary push button switches. Or, instead of push button, it could even convert a pulse from an IR sensor or other type of sensor.

So, instead of flipping a light switch when you walk I to a room, you could
- push a momentary button to toggle the lights on
- wave your hand in fron of a reflective IR sensor to turn the lights on.


For your idea, think of a sensor pulse (or momentary switch pulse that replaces a toggle switch.

 

Or you can connect 4 flip flop as a 4 bit binary counter. Put a push button switch at their first input. It would be able to count 0-15 in binary.

If you connect a binary to 7-segment decoder chip together with a 7-seg LED to the counter, you'd be able to display 0-9 on the LED. You can also add a "Reset" button to the counter if you want to start all over from zero.
