Hi All,

I am currently working as an electronics technician for a motor control company that produces DC-AC inverters and looking to step up to junior hardware engineer.

To increase my experience, I am looking to create a portfolio of electronic circuit designs but I'm stuck for ideas on what to do.

If you are a circuit designer, how and where do you get ideas for circuits to design. Is there a website out there that gives project ideas and examples of portfolios?

The project ideas can involve microcontrollers and the creation of 3d printer cases.

Thanks in Advance

Ideas usually come from doing something that is difficult, unpleasant or impossible and figure out how to improve the situation. Sometimes people that don't know how things are usually done, come up with very creative, unorthodox solutions.

Depends on the application. The approach that worked best for me was to look at how others dealt with similar problems and then design a solution based on what I learned from others. After all, why reinvent the wheel unless you need a different kind of wheel, but even then you should find examples of other wheels to trigger ideas.

Improving speed, power, size, price and efficiency are motivations.

Then there are things that serve more than one purpose like Ronco handy dandy kitchen contraptions. You could invent a combination toaster oven, coffee maker that also does your laundry but it probably wouldn't do any of those things well and couldn't sell very many of them.

I think there is a lot of room for improvement in robotics.
