Here is one of the circuits I have made. I have no idea weather it's correct as I am a beginner in this electronics. The problem is that it just isn't working at all.

Cheers I'll add that in, here is another one that kind of works but I cannot seem to get the time to last for more than a fraction of a second.

I seem to have fixed that issue but the next issue is that the electrolytic capacity discharges incredibly slowly once the time is up, how can this be resolved so that it discharges quicker or instantly.

 

In the circuit in post #24 the cap charges slowly and discharges quickly. If you want to slow the discharge, insert a resistor in series between the cap and pin 7.
