You can do that to LCDs too; if the connector loosens due the heat generated. But I wouldn't be as brutal, just press or rub in the area with the defect.
there is only one way to repair an lcd with that sort of fault -it involves the use of a very expensive machine to repair the affected tab(s) and by the time you have paid for that you could have bought a replacement set.
