Hello everyone,

I've run into a problem designing a power supply with this component: https://uk.farnell.com/multicomp-pr...c-dc-9v-0-555a/dp/3583987?ost=mp-ld05-23b09r2

I've designed the circuit according to the typical circuit listed in the datasheet:
datasheet.PNGFor the MOV, I used https://uk.farnell.com/epcos/b72210...910v-disc-10mm/dp/3131633?ost=b72210s0351k101
For the resistor, https://uk.farnell.com/cgs-te-conne...-1-3w-2512-thick-film/dp/2476442?st=352212RFT

I've used components according to spec on the low voltage side too. Here is the PCB design (look at the left side, right side is the application) / schematic I used:
circuit.png
circuitschematic.pngUpon turning on the power (230 VAC), the resistor on the Live (i.e. R1 in the datasheet, corresponding to R2 / R3 on the circuit) sparked, and is now broken. However, it did not seems to influence the power supply, which continues to work fine, as it seems.

What could be the reason for the failure of R1? I don't understand what I have done wrong.

Thanks alot for your help in advance!

Bart
