That's your problem! The solar panels can't deliver enough current.
What type panels are you using?

I am using 3 of these solar panels in series. What kind of solar panels should I get and what units should they be rated at...voltage, amps, and wattage to get this circuit working? Also is there a good website to order solar panels that is relatively inexpensive?

 

Those are 6 volt panels, should be reading appx 16 to 18 volts under full sunlight.

 

I know this may be an insulting question, but I don't think you told us this. In what environment are you trying to use this? Is it in direct sunlight? Outdoors in the shade? Indoors?

A solar panel only produces it full output in direct sunlight.

I want to experiment with solar panels with both indoor and outdoor environment. I want to see if I could replace a 9 volt battery to power the lm386 circuit with solar panels in both environments, indoors and outdoors.

No I have not tried my setup in full sunlight. That is a good idea. I doubt that would work given that the current and wattage are too low, but its worth a try.

 

Don’t try it with three in series, or you will blow up the chip. The solar panel will produce at least 10 times the power outside as it will inside.

The solar panel is a no-name-brand made in China and was sold by RadioCrap who went bankrupt. Its polarity is not marked.
Maybe it is a fake.
