I am thinking of building a home power system, and wanted to know if there are any good resources on how to build components to connect the system to the power grid?

 

If that's a DC system, look up "synchronous inverter". If it's an AC system, you might find that the synchronizer is awfully expensive. You have to keep your home alternator locked to the grid phase. This translates to an expensive speed controller. Not sure either component are too suited to home-building. The power utility has to sign off on the installation.
