I inherited the LED backlight from a broken LCD TV. It *was* a 45" LG model # is 49UJ6300.

It is 4 rows of 9 LED's each. The power supply says 112 volts at 500ma. It would make a nice 60 watt flashlight. ;)

I have not powered it up yet since I will have to trick the power supply to turn on the LED's. The other supply on the PCB will probably need a minimum load to run.

If your mains supply is 120V AC, chances are you could run the leds with a bridge rectifier and series resistor say 10 ohms 5W to test it. All the leds will be in series approx 3V each. If your mains is 230V, then use one half wave rectifier diode like 1N4007.

Personally i would see if the leds can be seperated to run in blocks of 3, then you can use a 12V DC psu .

I do want to get the power supply working... But... If I get impatient then I will try your bridge rectifier idea. :D
I could even use a cap to limit the current. Oops, you did not hear me say that.

I don't think the strips are easily separated into fewer than 9 LED's. I will have to look.

Yes a capacitor limiter is better or Transformerless psu, (forbidden on here) ,

Does the psu work?
